Our Mission
We are SMCT. Our mission is:
Storytelling, Mindfulness, Creativity, and Teamwork
STORYTELLING
We are here in service of putting people in front of great storytelling.
Stories are inspiring, healing, and life-giving. We want to transport and transform our audiences by telling stories which matter and have effect.
MINDFULNESS
We are here to be present in the experiences we share with an open mind and accepting attitude.
We seek to be present and aware of our thoughts, feelings, and kinesthetic selves with care and without judgment. We want to tell stories with intention and sensitivity using education as foundation, and to be mindful of the way these stories affect those who interact with them.
Creativity
We are here to create.
To make art is to put a net positive into the world by adding something to it which is beautiful and good. We want to play and to explore our artistic selves in a holistic and human way.
Teamwork
We are here to lift up and celebrate our collective talents.
We want to do good work and to work hard, with and for one another and our community. We seek to respect and appreciate others more through the work we do together, centering inclusion and the elevation of our individuality to make people feel seen, heard, and accepted for who they are.
Our History

In 1993, a small band of singers and actors from St. Matthew Lutheran Church presented their first spring musical, a show written and directed by local middle school teacher, Keith Roberts. As the word spread about this effort, the group grew to include children and teens from local schools, and adults from the community. Within two years, SMCT stages it’s first Broadway musical production.
Today, SMCT continues to welcome individuals of all ages in the Twin Cities metro area to audition and join us in the creative process. Whether you are experiencing the stage for the first time, getting back into theater after a hiatus, or consider yourself a true veteran, there is a place for you at SMCT.
Additionally, we strive to collaborate with local community members and businesses through sponsorship opportunities, donation collection for local food shelves, and special fundraising concerts in aid of both community organizations and SMCT goals.
